چکیده

This paper deals with the problem of non-linear droplet oscillations, whereas eeects of liquid viscosity are of our special interest. In the experimental part nite amplitude, axial-symmetric oscillations of small liquid droplets in a gaseous environment are studied. Experimental results are compared with available theoretical models. It was found that for a wide range of viscous damping the numerical model, based on applying a least squares approximation to the boundary conditions and the vorticity equation 1], provides results which are in a good agreement with the experimental ndings. At low and medium viscosities also a simplèmechanical' model 2] of droplet dynamics offers adequate description of the numerical and experimental data. The linear irrotational model of Lamb 3] suuers serious discrepancies between predicted and observed oscillation patterns.

Deformation and breakup of high-viscosity droplets with symmetric microfluidic cross flows.

The dynamic response of highly viscous droplets to a sharp increase in the surrounding liquid velocity is experimentally investigated in a square microchannel junction. The local injection of the continuous phase from symmetric side channels onto a train of droplets produces a large velocity contrast between the front and the rear of droplets, yielding a broad range of time-dependent deformatio...

Nonlinear dynamics of viscous droplets

Nonlinear viscous droplet oscillation are analysed by solving the Navier–Stokes equation for an incompressible fluid. The method is based on mode expansions with modified solutions of the corresponding linear problem. A system of ordinary differential equations, including all nonlinear and viscous terms, is obtained by an extended application of the variational principle of Gauß to the underlyi...

Viscous Fluid Flow-Induced Nonlocal Nonlinear Vibration of Embedded DWBNNTs

In this article, electro-thermo nonlocal nonlinear vibration and instability of viscous-fluid-conveying double–walled boron nitride nanotubes (DWBNNTs) embedded on Pasternak foundation are investigated. The DWBNNT is simulated as a Timoshenko beam (TB) which includes rotary inertia and transverse shear deformation in the formulation. Considering electro-mechanical coupling, the nonlinear govern...

Nonlinear Dynamic Buckling of Viscous-Fluid-Conveying PNC Cylindrical Shells with Core Resting on Visco-Pasternak Medium

The use of intelligent nanocomposites in sensing and actuation applications has become quite common over the past decade. In this article, electro-thermo-mechanical nonlinear dynamic buckling of an orthotropic piezoelectric nanocomposite (PNC) cylindrical shell conveying viscous fluid is investigated. The composite cylindrical shell is made from Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) and reinforced by ...

Friction and Wetting Transitions of Magnetic Droplets on Micropillared Superhydrophobic Surfaces.

Reliable characterization of wetting properties is essential for the development and optimization of superhydrophobic surfaces. Here, the dynamics of superhydrophobicity is studied including droplet friction and wetting transitions by using droplet oscillations on micropillared surfaces. Analyzing droplet oscillations by high-speed camera makes it possible to obtain energy dissipation parameter...
